What is an LSC?
Local School Councils are elected governing bodies at the school level in CPS. They were established under the 1988 School Reform Act to give parents and community members a real voice in school decision-making.
LSC Composition
An LSC typically includes:
- 6 Parents
- 2 Community Members
- 2 Teachers
- 1 Non-teaching staff member
- The Principal
- 1 Student representative (for high schools)
LSC Responsibilities
LSCs have several key responsibilities, including:
- Hiring and evaluating the principal
- Approving how school funds and resources are allocated
- Approving the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP)
- Monitoring school progress and improvement
